KIDNEY FAILURE SYMPTOMS

Disease Information

Kidney Failure Symptoms Description

The kidneys are a pair of organs located behind the abdominal cavity. The two kidneys prevent the accumulation of waste products in the blood, eliminate excess fluid from the body, and make red blood cells. Apart from these three primary functions, the kidneys also promote healthy bones.

When one, two or all three of the three primary functions cease or are limited, kidney failure symptoms manifest. Regrettably, the symptoms are few, and often will only be detected through blood tests performed by a physician.

Kidney Failure Symptoms Detection
Most people experience kidney failure without feeling the symptoms in the early stages of kidney disease. The symptoms usually manifest during the final stages of kidney disease, commonly called in the medical community as endstage renal disease [ESRD].

A physician should order blood and urine tests for signs of kidney damage. If blood has an excess of serum creatinine or urine has an excess of protein, some kidney failure has occurred.

Kidney Failure Symptoms Specified
As the kidneys progressively lose their ability to perform their specific functions, symptoms of kidney failure arise more apparently.

Waste Build Up
Waste – intended to leave the body – accumulates. Sensations of fatigue, weakness, nausea, and even confusion are kidney failure symptoms. Loss of appetite and involuntary weight loss are also symptoms.

Fluid Build Up
Due to the kidneys’ inability to eliminate excess fluid through urination, the human body begins to swell. The legs retain fluid first, and the swelling starts to affect other parts of the body.

Low Blood Count
Red blood cells are rich in oxygen and vital nutrients. Without the production of red blood cells, the body becomes anemic. People with anemia feel tired and weak overall, and become so comparatively faster. Dizziness and nausea may accompany low blood count symptoms.

Urination
Either a difficulty in urinating or a need to urinate often at night may be kidney failure symptoms.

Kidney Failure Symptoms and High Risk Groups
Certain groups are at a higher risk of kidney disease and disorder; however, anyone that suffers from high blood pressure – hypertension – or diabetes is also at a higher risk.

  • High Risk Groups
  • African-American
  • Hispanic-American
  • Native American
  • Native Alaskan
  • People with Diabetes
  • People administered Trasylol or aprotinin

Warning! If you, a relative or friend has undergone surgery with the use of Trasylol, contact your physician immediately. As stated above, apparent kidney failure symptoms do not manifest until the final stages. Also Trasylol is reported to affect the health even 30 days after its administration.

Individuals exposed to the Bayer Pharmaceutical manufactured Trasylol drug – generically called aprotinin – are at a much higher risk for kidney failure, as well as heart attack, stroke, and internal hemorrhage.
