TRASYLOL

Disease Information

Trasylol and Aprotinin

Bayer Pharmaceuticals manufactures aprotinin as Trasylol.

Aprotinin is a protein from bovine lung tissue. The aprotinin Trasylol drug is injected to reduce or prevent excessive blood loss during surgery.

Trasylol Effects
Trasylol prevents the human body’s natural ability from dissolving blood clots. Once Trasylol is administered, human blood coagulates faster; thus, Trasylol stops a patient from bleeding more than usual.

Trasylol Mortality Research
In January 2006, two research studies prompted the US Food and Drug Administration to reevaluate the safety of Trasylol. Collectively, the two studies – one from The New England Journal of Medicine – emphasized that there was an increase in kidney dysfunction, kidney failure, heart attack, or stroke for patients given Trasylol.

Moreover, the Ottawa Health Institute conducted research designed to prove Trasylol – $1000 per dose – was more effective than two other drugs, epsilon-aminocaproic and tranexamic acid – between $50 and $100 per dose. Like Trasylol these latter two drugs also prevent excessive bleeding during surgery.

This Canadian Trasylol study was terminated early. The initial data indicated higher risks of death in patients administered Trasylol. Patients given Trasylol were 50% more likely to die from heart attacks, strokes, and internal hemorrhages 30 days after the Trasylol injection.

Trasylol and Bayer Pharmaceutical Research
On September 27, 2006 – six days after a public conference – Bayer Pharmaceuticals revealed that it had performed its own Trasylol research. The study indicated an increased risk of death for patients who were given Trasylol. Bayer had not informed the FDA of this study of 67,000 patients, 30,000 of whom had been treated with Trasylol.

Trasylol Victims
Trasylol has been used on an estimated 4.8 million people. With information from the Ottawa Health Institute, around 20% of Trasylol treated patients have died due to the drug. With that statistic, the Trasylol drug manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals has killed an estimated 50,000 people a year.

In its 13 years of use, Trasylol is responsible for the deaths of 650,000 people.

The estimated numbers in the previous paragraph do NOT include patients who have survived the Trasylol treatment. Due to Trasylol, these survivors may have suffered – or continue to suffer – from kidney poisoning, kidney dysfunction, kidney failure, heart attacks, strokes, and / or internal hemorrhage.

Trasylol Consequences
If you or a loved one has undergone surgery, consult with a physician immediately and confirm if the Trasylol drug manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceuticals was administered. Exposure to the drug is a serious matter that may prove fatal.

Heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and internal hemorrhages can be triggered by Trasylol 30 days after exposure, by which time, medical and legal recourses are limited. It is imperative to consult a physician as soon as possible. Babbitt-Johnson attorneys, specializing in aprotinin and Trasylol cases, offer free legal consultations and advice on the best legal recourses.
